The A Home For All initiative goes beyond individual programs to create a community where homelessness is rare, brief,
and nonrecurring and every person has access to permanent, affordable housing and the resources to sustain it.

Overview

Developed from extensive research, data analysis and strategic collaboration among 250+ organizations and stakeholders, A Home For All is an initiative designed to address all aspects of homelessness and housing instability to ensure every individual and family has a stable roof over their head. Mecklenburg County leaders selected United Way of Greater Charlotte to lead implementation and the organization convenes Implementation Teams and a Technical Committee to drive progress for the initiative.

Approximately 3,000 people are currently experiencing homelessness.
This area has the third-highest median rent regionally but the highest rental price growth rate from 2019 to 2021.
Over the course of the pandemic, the number of families experiencing homelessness increased by over 50%.
Black individuals, who make up 33% of the Mecklenburg County population, represent 76% of people experiencing homelessness.
45,000 more housing units are needed to adequately provide housing to those earning 30% or less of the area median income.
Over the course of the pandemic, the number of families experiencing homelessness increased by over 50% and the number experiencing unsheltered homelessness increased by 35%.
Housing is increasingly becoming unaffordable and is widening the economic divides in our community, which then deepens the racial inequity.
